Creed Millesime Imperial Review

My quest to find the perfect summer/warm weather scent has led me to get my hands on Creed’s Millesime Imperial. I am not going to lie, I was really excited to take this baby for a test drive, after watching so many reviews and reading fragrance until my eyes started to cross I was well prepared.

Really interesting to see the fragrance communities love and hate with Millesime Imperial by Creed. On one side, it’s praised for being one of the best, unique and fresh summer fragrances in the business, and on the other side as an overpriced version of Ed Hardy Love and Luck. Well here is my take on Creed’s Millesime Imperial.

Presentation

Creed’s presentation is top notch from the box down to the bottle, granted it better be for the price you’re paying for it. Little things come to my attention like the embossed Creed logo tiled all around the box, to the bright gold crown and gold accents that appear dipped in real gold. Opening the Creed boxes you will find the familiar story card and insert giving more information into the houses history, Creed’s attention to detail leaves no stone unturned.

The bottle is beautiful as well keeping the gold theme, from the bottle cap to the logo and Millesime Imperial label all are in beautiful gold given the impression of a fragrance fit for a king. Creed’s legendary sprayer does a great job giving you plenty of juice on your skin.

Great Bottle and Presentation

Notes & Scent

Top Notes: Fruity Notes and Sea Salt

Middle Notes:  Iris, Mandarin Orange, Sicilian Lemon and Bergamot

Base Notes: Musk, Woody Notes, and Sea Notes

Millesime Imperial was launched in 1995 and the nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Creed Sixth Generation. I have heard rumors MI was created for a Sultan Prince, and the Prince paid in gold (I have no idea if this is true, but this fragrance seems fit for a prince).

The Batch Code on my bottle is “S03313X01”, that being said man this smells great. Opening the box for the first time and getting a whiff of this I was blown away immediately. When I first apply “MI” I get fruity notes which to me smells like a fresh cut watermelon mixed with other fresh fruit notes, and almost suddenly the sea salt takes over. Imagine having lunch on the beach and your served a fruit cocktail made with fresh melons, now image your waiter sprinklers a heavy dose of sea salt all over those fresh fruits and this is what you get with Millesime Imperial. Sea salt notes are always present but begin to fade after the first 30 minutes and hints of Lemon and Bergamot make a subtle appearance. Every time I use Millesime Imperial I catch new notes, right now I can smell hints of wood and musk.

I have smelled Love and Luck, Sean John and while they are close representations of MI they come off synthetic. If you’re looking for a fresh summer fragrance that comes off completely natural Millesime Imperial is for you.

Masterfully blended from start to finish

Projection

Here comes the bad news. As great of job Olivier Creed Sixth Generation did creating a beautiful fragrance, they have done a terrible job making this a good value in the performance department. It’s funny because Creed states the term “Millesime” is supposed to define a fragrance with high concentration and quality. I get really poor projection out MI, on a good day I get a moderate projection for the first 1-2 hrs after that it becomes a skin scent.

With the high price tag, I would have expected better Projection.

Longevity

More bad news, Longevity on my skin is terrible. I have a hard time believing this is an EDP with this kind of performance. And again with the ridiculous price tag, I was expecting great performance similar to Aventus, but this is not the case. On a good day and let me all caps GOOD I get 3hrs, Really?! 3 hours really!!

I am done ranting longevity is terrible.

Versatility

Season: Any Season

Age Group:18+

Super versatile fragrance. This can be worn to work or casual, winter or summer. In my opinion, I will be wearing this in the summer months. What I really like about Millesime Imperial is how non-offensive it is. Soft and beautifully done a real people pleaser (If they can smell it lol).

Price 1oz $92+ / 4oz $152+

My Overall Feedback of Creed Millesime Imperial

They should call this fragrance Love and Hate. I love the notes and scents and how beautifully it is blended, I love the natural ingredients and versatility of Millesime Imperial. I hate the piss poor performance from a niche house that charges exuberant amounts of money. If you have money to blow go ahead and buy a bottle, but for most of my audience, hard working middle class folks, I recommend buying 5ml samples and trying out Millesime Imperial for yourself. If you are an avid fragrance collector and want to purchase Millesime Imperial just beware that performance can be spotty. For the average guy googling to find out more about MI, I wouldn’t recommend buying. Ed Hardy’s Love and Luck is a similar more synthetic version that gives you a close vibe.

Brooklyn

I really like this fragrance. A Very subtle scent, but when I smell it I really enjoy this on Xavier. Nice blend between sweet and clean. I would give it a 4 out of 5 on scent alone.

Ever since I was young, I have always loved to smell great. Cologne head all the way. Now that I am older I still love going to the mall or local shops to smell the latest fragrances. Always looking to make my collection of scents larger :)
